Dear Eco Hub Families,
Welcome to our November newsletter! This month has been filled with exploration, creativity, and meaningful community moments across the Hub. From hands-on adventures in nature to imaginative projects, family learning sessions, and celebrations of learner voice, November has offered countless opportunities to grow, connect, and reflect together. We’re excited to share some highlights from the past weeks and give you a glimpse into the vibrant learning experiences taking place in our community.
As part of our Explora Building Block, learners enjoyed a hands-on outing to the Agro-Environmental Space in Viladecans. This trip supported our broader inquiry into food, sustainability, and where our nourishment comes from, guided by our big project questions across the ages: Are we what we eat? (Adventurers), What’s on our plate and how can we eat in a healthy and sustainable way? (Discoverers), and How do our food choices affect the planet, people, and our future? (Pioneers). During the visit, learners explored crop fields, discovered the parts of plants we eat, tried out real farming activities, and learned about biological pest control. It was a rich and engaging experience that brought our Explora themes to life.
As part of our Connect Building Block, all learners at the Hub visited the L’Olla del Rei wetlands, a biologically rich natural space right here in our local environment. The aim of this outing was to offer learners the chance to step into the role of field scientists—observing wildlife, noticing patterns in nature, and deepening their understanding of local ecosystems. Surrounded by water, reeds, and diverse species, learners experienced firsthand the importance of protecting and learning from the natural spaces that sustain our community.
Our learners had an unforgettable time at Colònies, enjoying three days of exploration, teamwork, and connection in nature. From shared meals and room life to outdoor adventures, games, and disco night, the experience created countless moments of joy and bonding across the Hub. Colònies offered learners the chance to build independence, strengthen friendships, and discover new sides of themselves—all while surrounded by the beauty and calm of the natural environment. It was a meaningful, community-building experience that we’ll carry with us long after returning to the Hub.
Learners who didn’t attend Colònies had an equally magical experience during the Hub Retreat at Las Acacias. They began by caring for chickens, sowing edible plants, and crafting their own clay creatures and figures. Back in the forest, creativity and collaboration took center stage as they designed and built tiny fantasy worlds for elves, fairies, and dragons using natural materials, tools, and storytelling. Sketching ideas, constructing miniature worlds, creating characters and story stones, and combining their work into a shared map, learners celebrated teamwork, problem-solving, and inventive thinking throughout this imaginative adventure.
This past month, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming two wonderful parent volunteers, Naomi Annand and Emma Buckle, to lead special Mind & Body Gym sessions. Naomi has been introducing learners to the magic of ballet as they co-create a Nutcracker-inspired performance, while Emma has been guiding learners through the playful world of method acting. You’ll be able to enjoy a glimpse of their creative work during our Showcase’s Open Mic!
As we approach the end of the year, we’d like to remind families that our cycle 1’s 360s are coming up soon (9-15 December). These conversations are an important moment for learners, mentors, and families to reflect together on growth, celebrate progress, and set intentions for the months ahead. If you haven’t scheduled your 360 yet, please reach out to your child’s mentor to book a time. We look forward to connecting with all of you!
Our end-of-cycle Showcase is just around the corner, and we’re excited to celebrate all the creativity and learning from this cycle. A reminder that learners who would like to participate in the Open Mic must sign up by December 5th. The Showcase will begin with a Gallery Walk from 3:00–3:45, followed by the Open Mic from 3:45–4:30, and we’ll finish the afternoon with a community potluck starting at 4:30. We can’t wait to see the wonderful projects, performances, and shared moments that bring our community together!

In our second interactive learning module, families explored how to engage their learners in meaningful conversations about their own learning. Together, we unpacked what Building Blocks are and how they naturally develop over time—not as checklists, but as evolving steps in each child’s growth. Parents practiced simple strategies to spark reflective dialogue at home, helping learners notice their progress and better understand their own learning process. By the end of the session, families left with practical, everyday tools to support and deepen these reflections in a grounded and supportive way.
