Dear Village Hub Families,
We’ve kicked off this new cycle with great energy, and it’s been wonderful to see learners settling in, reconnecting, and diving into their learning.
As we move forward, there are lots of exciting experiences ahead — from excursions and shared learning opportunities to celebrations and community events. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and partnership. We’re looking forward to a fun and meaningful term together.
Here’s a brief overview of a few of our Cycle 2 Building Blocks. You can always check weekly updates in the Learning Highlights every Friday!
Social Justice in theater: Secondary
Sustainable Food: Primary
Ancient Civilizations: Secondary
Scientist for a Cycle: Secondary
Into the Woods: Primary
Every Friday, following our Learner-Led Community Meeting, learners have the opportunity to attend Adelante workshops based on their interests. These workshops run for 4–5 weeks and are learner led.
This month, learners are offering: doodle art, building an aquarium, space design and escape rooms
Learners also take part in Studio time, where they learn from an expert in a chosen field. Just like Adelante, they select their Studio based on interest.
This sprint, Studios include: photography, watercolor, capoeira, science experiments and print making.
Our Fitness studios are: Volleyball or expressive movement.
👉 Ask your learner which Adelante and Studio they are signed up for!
Secondary excursion: La Vilanova Indiana
On Tuesday, February 3rd, our secondary learners will take part in an excursion organized by Aida, our Catalan Boost Learning Guide. Learners will explore La Vilanova Indiana, focusing on the city’s 19th-century history and the influence of the group known as the indianos.
The group will depart from the Hub after lunch, with pick-up at the Vilanova i la Geltrú train station at 16:00. Please ensure learners wear comfortable walking shoes.
Secondary excursion: Roman Tarragona
As part of our Ancient Civilizations studies, students will take part in a walking tour exploring the rich Roman heritage of Tarragona. To allow learners to go deeper into the history, the tour will be offered in both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking options. The visit will include the Roman Walls, the Circus, and the Amphitheatre, bringing Roman history vividly to life. The excursion will take place on Thursday, February 26th, with pick-up and drop-off at the Vilanova train station.
Primary Field Trip: Sustainable Farm Visit
As part of their Explora building block on the history and sustainability of food, our primary learners will visit a sustainable farm to explore where food comes from and how it can be produced responsibly. This hands-on experience will help learners connect their learning with real-world practices. Dates and further details will be shared as soon as arrangements are confirmed.
Primary Visit: Eco Hub Collaboration
On Wednesday, March 4th, our primary learners will visit the Eco Hub for a shared learning experience. During the visit, learners will watch Eco Hub presentations from their Explora building block and practice giving thoughtful, constructive feedback. This collaboration supports reflection, communication, and learning across groups. Pick-up and drop-off will take place at the Vilanova train station.
Next week, we will celebrate Carnival Week, similar to a spirit week, with daily themed dress-up days chosen by learner vote. We’re looking forward to a week full of creativity and fun!
Monday, February 9 – Pajama Day: Learners may wear their pajamas to sessions.
Tuesday, February 10 – Sports Day: Learners may wear sports clothing or anything related to sports.
Wednesday, February 11 – Mismatch Day: The more mismatched, the better!
Thursday, February 12 – Nature Day: Dress inspired by nature — leaves, weather, animals, or natural colors.
Friday, February 13 – Costume Day: Learners may choose any costume they like.
We kindly ask families to support age-appropriate costumes. Please ensure costumes do not include weapons (realistic or toy), are comfortable, and allow learners to move freely and safely during activities.
February 6: Parent coffee (location TBD)
February 9 - 12: Carnival spirit week (our new learner council will choose the themes!)
February 16 - 20: Semana Blanca (Hub closed)
February 26: Parent Training Module (6pm) on Wellbeing for your learner - online
In our third interactive learning module, families explored some of the latest research and findings on how to intentionally integrate emergent technology into learning and life. We also saw how intentional integration of technology can enhance the learning experience in partnership with the play-based, human focused, inquiry approach that we value at Learnlife.
If you missed the session, you can check the presentation here and the recording here.
The Parent Hub would like to share that this year they are planning a calçotada! It will take place on Sunday, March 8th. A calçotada is a traditional Catalan gathering centered around grilled calçots (spring onions), shared food, and time together. The Parent Hub is currently exploring options to reserve a nice venue for the event and will share further details once everything is confirmed.
Hope you have a great weekend!
