Dear Eco Hub families,
April has been a vibrant and meaningful month across our community, filled with creativity, connection, and shared experiences. From celebrating Sant Jordi with storytelling, roses, and books, to launching our very first Jocs Florals writing contest, learners have been expressing themselves in powerful and imaginative ways. We’ve also continued deepening our sense of identity and belonging through cultural presentations, hands-on learning experiences, and community events that bring families and learners together. As we move into the next part of the term, it is inspiring to see how learning continues to extend beyond the space and into every corner of our community life.
Enjoy the read!
Warmly,
The Eco Hub Team
On April 23rd, our community came together to celebrate Sant Jordi, one of Catalunya’s most beloved traditions, which also coincides with World Book Day. A huge thank you to our wonderful parent community for organizing a magical afternoon filled with creativity, storytelling, and play. Learners enjoyed three special activity stations: the Rose Lab, where children crafted paper roses and attached messages of kindness or courage; the “Rescue the Roses” game, where teams worked together to save roses from the dragon’s lair; and a Story Dice station that inspired imagination and collaboration through improvised storytelling. We finished the celebration with a joyful Book Exchange, sharing stories and fostering a love of reading across our community.
As part of our Sant Jordi celebrations, we were excited to host our very first Jocs Florals, a cherished Catalan literary tradition that celebrates creativity, language, and self-expression. Learners participated in a writing contest across six different categories, sharing original stories and poems in both English and Spanish. Congratulations to all participants for their imagination and courage in sharing their work, and especially to this year’s winners, who each received a gift card to Abacus:
- Gabriela for The Three Little Princesses (English Group A)
- Carver for The Wind (English Group B)
- Anna for War (English Group C)
- Livia for Mi conejo blanco (Español Grupo A)
- Lewis for El océano (Español Grupo B)
- Daniel for El tiburón vegetariano (Español Grupo C).
We look forward to continuing this beautiful tradition in the years to come.
This Sprint, we continued our “My Culture, Our Cultures, Our World” series during Mind & Body Gym, creating meaningful opportunities for learners to share aspects of their own culture, home country, or places they have visited. Through presentations, stories, traditions, and personal experiences, learners helped us deepen our understanding of the diverse perspectives within our community. We were also delighted to welcome several parents who volunteered to participate and share with the group. Thank you to all the families who contributed their time, experiences, and enthusiasm to make these sessions so rich and inspiring for our learners.
For the second year in a row, our third Showcase will include the much-anticipated Talent Show during Show-Show! This special event is an opportunity for learners and staff to share their talents, passions, and creativity with the wider community through performances. Participants can sign up until May 15th and will have time to rehearse and prepare ahead of the event. We are looking forward to celebrating the incredible variety of talents within our community on June 18th at 3:45pm.
We are excited to welcome a new member to the Learnlife team. Kerry Schorr, a parent from Eco Hub, will be joining us on May 4th as our new Hub Operations Lead. Based at Urban Hub, Kerry will also support operational logistics across all three hubs, including inventory management, vendor relations, hub events, Powerschool processes, as well as supporting enrolment and onboarding of new families, organisation-wide events, and summer programming. Kerry brings valuable experience, a collaborative mindset, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact. We are delighted to have her on board and look forward to the energy and expertise she will bring to the team.
This summer, children will experience a vibrant and enriching Summer Camp designed to capture the true essence of the season. Through creative activities, exciting excursions, and hands-on workshops, learners won’t just have fun—they will connect, explore, and grow in a dynamic and inspiring environment. Each week is built around a different theme and includes outings to local activity centres, alongside engaging sessions led by the enthusiastic team from FUNdamentales. With limited spots available, this is a wonderful opportunity to make this summer truly memorable.
We are thrilled to share that Pau Tavella, Learning Guide at Eco Hub, will be returning from maternity leave on May 18th, working part-time until the end of this school year. It is wonderful to have her rejoining the team, and we have truly missed her presence, energy, and contribution to our community. We are very much looking forward to welcoming her back and easing into this next chapter together.
As part of our Explora Building Block, learners across all programme groups will be heading out on meaningful learning experiences designed to connect directly with their big questions. These outings will help bring history and inquiry to life beyond the classroom. Adventurers will explore El Castell de Castelldefels (May 6th) as they investigate the question of what secrets pirates may have left behind in the area and how these stories can be uncovered and shared. Discoverers will visit the Castelldefels Library Prehistory Expo (May 14th) to explore how the town has changed over time and how its history can be represented through images, objects, and storytelling. Pioneers will visit our local library (May 7th) to deepen their understanding of how historians investigate and interpret the past, building real connections to historical thinking and research. Michelle has sent informative emails for each trip.
After many requests, we are delighted to invite our community to another Wellness Day by the sea—a chance to swim, move, connect, and play together in nature with the Learnlife community. This time we will gather at Castelldefels Beach near the central volleyball area, close to the chiringuitos and within walking distance from Eco Hub. We will meet on Sunday, June 7th at 12:00 PM at Playa de Castelldefels (Zona Esportiva – Volleyball Nets Area), a spacious and family-friendly stretch of beach ideal for group games, swimming, and relaxing together. Families are invited to bring a picnic to share or enjoy individually, along with beach essentials such as towels, sunscreen, water, and any games or equipment they would like to use. Please note that while Learnlife is organizing the gathering, families are responsible for supervising their children, especially in and around the water. We are looking forward to a beautiful day of sun, sea, and community connection. For any questions, please contact Suzanne at suzanne@learnlife.com

Last May 30th, Suzanne Faith, Well-being Lead and Learning Guide at Urban Hub, led a workshop to offer a clear and compassionate understanding of ADHD through the lens of brain science and the reward system. The workshops looked at how attention, motivation, and emotional regulation are governed by neurochemistry, and what this means for everyday parenting. Parents learned practical strategies to support focus, regulation, build healthy routines, and respond to challenges in ways that nurture confidence and resilience.
