Dear Eco Hub families,
As we move through the final stretch of the academic year, May has been a month full of exploration, creativity, movement, and meaningful learning experiences across the Hub. From exciting outings connected to our Building Blocks to collaborative challenges, artistic discoveries, and community celebrations like Sports Day, learners have continued to grow through curiosity, teamwork, and hands-on experiences. In this newsletter, we are excited to share some highlights from the many moments of learning, connection, and discovery that have taken place throughout the month.
Warmly,
The Eco Hub Team
As part of our Explora Building Block, the Adventurers recently visited El Castell de Castelldefels to dive deeper into our big question: “What secrets did pirates leave behind in Castelldefels, and how can we uncover and tell their stories?” During the outing, learners explored the castle’s history, discovered how the area was protected from pirate attacks many years ago, and imagined what life might have been like during that time. The visit sparked curiosity, thoughtful questions, and plenty of excitement as learners connected their discoveries to the stories and projects we are developing in Explora.
Also as part of our Explora Building Block, the Discoverers visited the Castelldefels Library’s Prehistory Expo to investigate our big question: “How has Castelldefels changed over time, and how can we represent its history through images, objects, and stories?” During the visit, learners explored artifacts, images, and exhibits connected to prehistoric life and the history of the area. The outing encouraged curiosity and thoughtful discussions as learners reflected on how people lived in the past and how we can use evidence, storytelling, and creativity to better understand and represent history.
The Pioneers also went on a trip to the library, but with a different purpose: to deepen their exploration of the question “How do historians investigate and interpret the past?” During the outing, learners discovered how libraries and historical resources help researchers gather evidence, compare perspectives, and build an understanding of past events. They explored different types of sources, asked thoughtful questions, and reflected on the importance of interpreting information critically. The visit inspired curiosity and supported learners in developing their own skills as young historians.
As part of our Imagine Building Block, all the Hub visited the Joan Miró Museum in Montjuïc for a creative and inspiring artistic experience. During the visit, they took part in the “Prova d’Artista” workshop, where they explored Joan Miró’s creative process through experimentation with different techniques such as drawing, collage, ink splatters, and playful interactions with objects. Just like Miró, learners collected ideas, sketches, and creations in their own working notebooks, which will now serve as inspiration for future artistic projects in Imagine. The outing encouraged creativity, curiosity, and confidence in expressing ideas through art.
Our very recent Sports Day was filled with energy, teamwork, and lots of fun as learners from across the Hub came together to take part in a variety of challenges and games. Throughout the day, learners demonstrated perseverance, collaboration, and encouragement for one another while enjoying opportunities to move, play, and celebrate being active together. From relay races to team challenges, Sports Day was a wonderful reminder of the importance of community, well-being, and learning through shared experiences. Congratulations to the green team, for being the winner of this year's Sports Day!
As part of their transition process, the Pioneer Year 2 learners visited Urban Hub to gain a deeper understanding of what the next stage of their learning journey could look like. During the visits, learners had the opportunity to engage with Urban Hub learners, explore the environment, and experience daily life within the Hub. These experiences helped learners build familiarity, confidence, and excitement about the transition, while also giving them space to ask questions, make connections, and imagine themselves in the community next year if they choose to continue their learning journey there.
This month, we finished our “My Culture, Our Cultures, Our World” series during Mind & Body Gym, creating meaningful opportunities for learners to share aspects of their own culture, home country, or places they have visited. Through presentations, stories, traditions, and personal experiences, learners helped us deepen our understanding of the diverse perspectives within our community. We were also delighted to welcome several parents who volunteered to participate and share with the group. Thank you to all the families who contributed their time, experiences, and enthusiasm to make these sessions so rich and inspiring for our learners.
Eco Hub is now officially accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)! This accreditation confirms the high-quality of learning at the Eco Hub and means our primary programme is recognised and accepted by schools around the world.
It’s also a big step towards becoming a fully accredited primary school in Spain. Now that we are NEASC-accredited, we can apply for local accreditation with the Conscorci. We hope to receive approval in 2027.
Thank you so much for your continued trust and support as we work together on the multiple facets of our plan. Please continue to champion Eco Hub as we seek to grow our enrolment number towards 70 learners (right now we have 48 confirmed).
We are very happy to announce Learnlife’s official Merch store! Big thank you to Ken Burbary, for his huge help in setting this up.
We’re inviting you to wear a Learnlife t-shirt in our upcoming Showcase!
This summer, children will experience a vibrant and enriching Summer Camp designed to capture the true essence of the season. Through creative activities, exciting excursions, and hands-on workshops, learners won’t just have fun—they will connect, explore, and grow in a dynamic and inspiring environment. Each week is built around a different theme and includes outings to local activity centres, alongside engaging sessions led by the enthusiastic team from FUNdamentales. With limited spots available, this is a wonderful opportunity to make this summer truly memorable.
